jesper dahlback is one of swedens leading djs/ producers with a lengthy back catalogue to his name, including co-production on two tiga albums, the hugg and pepp project with cousin john dahlback, and remixes for the likes of rex the dog, zoo brazil, arnaud rebotini of black strobe, thomas p heckman, robyn, the knife, and depeche mode. jesper has music in his genes, but it was the musical movements in detroit, berlin and london that inspired him to start producing techno, back in 1991 in his bedroom studio. completely hooked, by 1993 he d formed the stockholm-based globe studios together with peter benisch and adam beyer (following a chance meeting on the train to love parade?) and has worked there ever since. in 1996 jesper started the imprint, blank, mainly for his own material, and simultaneously launched joint venture dk with thomas krome - one of the first labels in sweden with a techno house crossover approach! in addition to making music for various techno labels around the world and working with planet rhythm, jesper met up with swiss-born stephan grieder who had just started the svek label. the duo started to experiment with different sounds, drawing on house musics roots, utilising vocals and acoustic instruments. jesper now describes his sound as >ranging between the analogue sounds of the roland sh101 and the precision mathematics of my computer. i m a researcher and developer of unheard sounds! since the founding of globe studios, i have always been looking for new ways to bend the rules and test the unknown. when i dj, i just play my own productions blending old classics with new unreleased demos.< a producer first and foremost, jespers dj dates find him weaving a soundscape of his productions, remixes and collaborations with new material at every gig, as well as musical elements and sounds worked through the set. one of his favourite current ventures is his part in jori hulkkonens acid symphony orchestra.

released in 1980 this italo gem has more recently become a huge collectors item worldwide due to its incredibly hard to find status (ú100 ebay / discogs). this album was the prototype for the whole italo sound, with the majority of it written in 1979, but was only a minor hit in its time and not much is now known about the band. the album spawned two singles gipsy and back to heaven but is full of off kilter disco classics such as mister luck and down to the disco. dusted down and remastered this album has really stood the test of time and given a fresh lease of life its bound to find a whole host of new fans worldwide.

stephen falken is a member of the outrunners, a duo who relish their italo disco, and have two feet firmly planted in the 80s. falkens synth drenched four tracker is one part jan hammer and one part tangerine dream, coming on like a forgotten john carpenter soundtrack.

there seems to be a bit a mystery around this record... and let some of this mystery remain. these two remixes of a fairly obscure song are pretty well known to the public, as for the last year or so they were regulars both in live sets of jacek sienkiewicz, and dj sets of ricardo villalobos. right now these two artists share credits to this obviously outstanding release. >pilgrim< is a vital, mesmerizing, uplifting piece of magic. one can assume, telling from the unusual, muezzin-like chanting, that it comes from some forgotten oriental library record... in fact, it was written in the seventies by a respected polish composer and extraordinary vocalist to the words of 19th century polish poet. now you can hear its modern, not to say futuristic, interpretation by two of the most forward-thinking electronic musicians from two different sides of the globe.

introducing the hells of love! two disco reprimands with an unhealthy penchant for slap bass, synths and drum machines. having both released singles under various guises, michele tessadri (fratelli riviera, bearfunk) and luca sapo saponaro (member of the love supreme project on tirk) decided two disco heads were better than one and headed to the studio to battle it out. the resulting cacophony of squelches and bleeps resulted in the third release on new fledgling jisco affiliated label under the shade.

another superbly curated selection of rare and undiscovered gems from the world of afro disco as author of the hugely popular american athlete blog, mr les stache has become an invaluable resource for all eager disciples of the good groove, shining a light on the often forgotten tracks from an overpopulated genre. as a true afficionado, these edits and amends are done with plenty of reverence for the originals, without ever losing site of their need to work the floor aside form including a majestic rework of arguably the best afro disco track ever made kabbalas ashewo ara (retitled kabbooga loo here) we get two more deadly jams concocted from drums lalabye and john ozilas funky boogie as with the first two volumes, these are ludicrously limited (300 copies) so get busy!!

its been almost a year since the release of efdemins fantastic two-tracker >america/the pulse<. >america<, that was also used on his curle mix-cd >carry on...<, became quite a big tune and even ended up on the number one spot in groove magazines chart. therefor efdemin preferred that no-one touched that track anymore, and we decided to give >the pulse< a remix treatment. john beltran is a highly respected artist that has been around since the early nineties - r&s! peacefrog! styrax! - and when we heard the ultra-funky mega-bomb he made from >the pulse<, we knew we made the right decision to ask him. another one of our long time favourites from accross the ocean is convextion aka e.r.p. he did some ground-breaking stuff on matrix, down low and frantic flowers. we asked him to do a remix of crcs amazing take on detroit techno, >vaskitsaherra<, originally on curle 009. the result ended up being nothing else than a timeless piece of art. this record comes as a beautifully marbled coloured vinyl, limited to 500 pieces.

city wasteland comes as a full cd as well as a split in two 12inches including some tracks that are vinyl-exclusives. sebastian lohse a.k.a. break sl from dresden is still quite young, but you can feel that he already defined his own universe of sounds and proper production skills. the second 12inch (city wasteland pt.2) now starts with the track move! which doesnt carry it s name for nothing - this is true-school techno! next, dirtbomb shows some nice edges and has a kinda dark feeling. hovering samples and a raw, dirty feel on the drums gives the whole track a very subtle blues. on the flip break sl enters deepest territory of detroit-influenced techno with weird dancer. the last track here tff is a vinyl-exclusive which delivers intense and acid-like drum layers ... chicago galore! thanks for purchasing a real copy!

the brussels based sirius pandi label reaches a rounded 8th vinyl release with two tracks from spaniard labels boss fernando daxta and a remix by greek man of our time mr.statik (memo, rotary cocktail, immigrant, perplex, karloff…).
>drunvalos drums< is a track that has been being tested by fernando with positive audience reactions during live sets in demanding places like toy (stuttgart) electrosonic festival (burgos) or rioma (mexico city). its frequencies between house, techno and minimal make a celebrative ravy drummy atmosphere perfect for those times where warm ups are over… colombian singer natalia davila recently added the consciousness speech during a studio session in mexico city giving the track that special femenine touch.
the flip side of the record is completed by a perfect more retained still criminal drumatic treatment by chief mr. statik and an extra daxtas track, >quien anda ahi<, a more small room title featured in french trax magazine june’s edition cd sampler.

some sublime athmospheric techno tracks that go somewhere between dubstep, detroit techno and broken beat / garage. roof light did an excellent job on this 4 track ep with tracks that are light but full of emotion and athmosphere. radiance is for sure one of the high lights with its minimal funky bass line and cut up beats and massive strings layered on top. around here is the main track with its 90s two step rhythm and its deep athmospheric sounds and vocals. ltj bukem goes dubstep? not sure who is the producer... but if its a debut its pretty impressive. great release! must have for all the martyn and 2562 fans!

a: dj ss & dubzero - this is the future: the track starts with a tense energizing build up, incorporating futuristic samples and sounds with a pulsing industrial feeling bass. the tempo builds up to a sharp climax and drops with force guaranteeing chaos on any dancefloor.
b: rollz - solid state: a new face at the formation records camp, rollz s debut track was hand picked by dj ss as a must for the album project. this track kicks off with a dark and eerie feel, building slowly to the chime of bells and echoing bass before dropping with intense punch that will take your breath away.
c: influx uk - stay on this channel: after a recent break from production influx uk returns on top form bringing with him the third track of the two-part release. stay on this channel has all the feel of previous influx smashers, a slow rhythmic snare guides the track as it builds with a jagged edge before dropping with shaking fluid samples and an earth moving bassline
d: generator & dj ss - killa: this track delivers exactly as its name promises. a melodic wobbling chord builds gradually to the sounds of a distant vocal sample, and intense climbing bass, which all combine and drop with sheer vengeance. expect to slay the masses when this tune is pulled out of the bag.

release no. 4 on the german important corestyle label, this time presented by two major artists of the industrial core scene: unnatural selection & forsaken is dead, well known for their great releases on labels like meta4, hard kryptic records, industrial strength, six feet underground and many more! this top producers offer in total 6 slammin tracks which vary from hard techno influenced sounds to raw & dark industrial pounders. the track >waking the tyrants device< was already part of the latest symp.tom compilation (life below 20hz) and the massive track >twilight of the idols< is currently rockin the hard floors with dj support from broken rules, stormtrooper, catscan and the relic. again a terrific 12 inch, this label is getting stronger with each release!

autodiscotheque return with a mighty release by one of their favourite maverick producers and djs danny berman. with releases on tirk, untracked, deep freeze and society, danny has made a big impression with his mixed up approach to production and djing. from the wonky house of the hot coins material released on tirk, to the more classically detroit outings under his red rackem moniker, danny is a music lover with an ear for the not so obvious and the left of centre musical territory.on this release which features both his musical personas simultaneously, the idea was to truly represent the difference between the red rackem and hot coins sounds on a single release, and to recreate an intense peak time feeling, but to do it from these two completely different scenes.place for me is detroit inspired heads down, cut up motown soul business, which pays homage to one of dannys favourite producers moodymann, and fits perfectly into that crossover space between slo-mo house and disco. chinese electro on the flip however, references that authentic early 80s new wave electro sound, and is influenced by yellow magic orchestra and recordings from new wave radio shows like belgiums liaison dangereuses

i ve been playing ortins track at big gigs for quite a while at peak times, with the advent & industrialyzer interpreting it its great to release these two fine pieces of work that have purpose and conviction says luke slater about the next release on his mote evolver label. the boundary pushing mind set slater brings to his own planetary assault systems creations is a key characteristic of the music he selects for mote evolver. this release from ortin cam is a prime example.

the meeting between tyrrhenians obtane and romes giorgio gigli creates two deep and dark techno where cinematic elements meet industrial structures in a dry and powerful form. transmission is up building and tight, the dark patterns reach obsession. reception takes a wider signal from a mysterious laboratory somewhere in the mountains.

musik gewinnt freunde starts the sommer season with mgf 09, which features two young and promising producers from beautiful venice: nicola sansoni aka randomatique and kaled jabri aka kaledj, who together form cosmic cowboys. the three tracks on their dusk ep combine an airy and transcendent athmosphere with an energy that builds up chary first but then unfolds and overwhelms you. with melancholic harmonies and a whiff of dub this ep invites for (day)dreaming or loose yourself on the dancefloor. definitely a great release for deep summer nights that will catch your heart regardless of time and space. cosmic cowboys make a great extension for the mgf family and it will be worth watching out for future releases from these guys
